Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa has secured an order from Singapore-based company Vena Energy to deliver wind turbines for a 133MW wind project in Karnataka, India. Under the terms of the deal, Siemens Gamesa will supply 37 of its 3.X platform turbines, called SG 3.6-145, for the project. Installation works at the site are expected to start next year, with the turbines to be manufactured at Siemens Gamesa’s facilities in India.
Siemens Gamesa and Vena Energy began their partnership in 2015 with a 154MW wind farm located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Since then, Vena Energy has added more than 300MW of capacity in India across wind facilities located in various states, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. This deal has increased the company’s portfolio with Siemens Gamesa in India to nearly 600MW. Siemens Gamesa India CEO Navin Dewaji said: “We are pleased to strengthen this partnership with Vena Energy and supply them with our latest technology that can help drive a successful energy transition in India.
“We have worked closely since 2015 and are confident of extending this long standing partnership in the years to come.” Vena Energy India head Monika Rathi said: “We are partnering with Siemens Gamesa for the supply of their 3.6 MW turbines for the Blended Wind Power Project located at Gudadur in Karnataka state. “With this project, Vena Energy’s total capacity in India will reach 1,162MW, and reinforces our commitment towards accelerating the green energy transition locally. “We are confident of successfully delivering this project to our host communities of Gudadur by 2023.”
Last December, Siemens Gamesa secured a contract from Ayana Renewable Power Six to supply its 3.X turbines for a 302MW wind farm in Karnataka. The company will supply and install 84 units of its SG 3.6-145 wind turbines for the project.
