Metro Railway has strengthened its renewable energy programme by commissioning a 500 kWp rooftop solar power plant at Jessore Road Metro station on the Yellow Line.
The facility was inaugurated on Wednesday (15 July) by Prem Sagar Gupta, General Manager, Metro Railway, in the presence of senior railway officials.
TOI reported that the solar plant has been designed to generate approximately 1,800 units of electricity every day, meeting the station's auxiliary power requirements such as lighting, lifts and escalators, while feeding excess electricity into the network.
According to Metro Railway, the installation is expected to reduce electricity expenditure by nearly Rs 50 lakh annually, with the project's capital cost likely to be recovered within three years.
Built with an estimated operational lifespan of 25 years, the system will be supported by a cloud-based monitoring platform that will enable real-time tracking of energy generation and overall performance.
