VinFast, the Vietnamese EV maker, has patented the design of an electric scooter in India. The manufacturer has been planning to enter the Indian electric two-wheeler market for some time, and this patent marks one of its first major steps towards that goal.
The brand had earlier revealed that it plans to launch around three electric scooters in the Indian market by the second half of 2026. The scooter featured in the design patent closely resembles the VinFast Viper, which is already available in international markets.
What the Patent Reveals
The patented scooter features a sporty, maxi-scooter-inspired design with a tall front apron, angular LED headlamp setup, compact flyscreen, sculpted side panels, and a split-tone body finish. The overall silhouette is similar to the internationally sold VinFast Viper. However, the newly patented design appears to incorporate several styling revisions, suggesting it could be an updated version.
The patent images show the electric scooter equipped with LED headlights and integrated LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), while the VinFast branding has been positioned lower on the front fascia. The front fender has been redesigned with a sharper appearance, and the windscreen has been partially restyled compared to the current Viper model.
The side body panels have also been updated, while a new bat-wing-inspired LED tail lamp cluster has been introduced. This tail lamp design is not present on the existing-generation VinFast Viper, indicating a fresh styling direction for the upcoming model.
Launch Timeline
VinFast has not officially confirmed the India launch of the Viper electric scooter. However, the filing of the design patent strongly suggests that the company is securing the scooter's design rights for the Indian market.
A commercial launch is expected after VinFast strengthens its passenger electric vehicle operations in India, with the company likely to introduce the Viper as part of its planned electric two-wheeler lineup in the second half of 2026.
